Ukrainians facing UK eviction fears

The outpouring of compassion in relation to the plight of Ukrainian families, often without a father figure), resulted in the Government launching the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Prior to that many Afghan families were rescued from almost certain death when the Taliban assumed control. These people are not illegal migrants but who have been welcomed in a tradition which has endured for centuries.

There are over 400 of these families living in the area covered by the Chelmsford Methodist Circuit. Some are still living in hotels awaiting a more permanent offer of accommodation. The Governments scheme of hosting families is beginning to break down and some families in the Chelmsford area are finding themselves homeless. Children are being uprooted from schools they are starting to learn in and mothers who have obtained jobs have to leave them for temporary accommodation many miles from Chelmsford. It is still not safe for them to return to a war zone which has no end in sight.

How can you help?

Whilst many churches are helping through offering their premises to provide food, clothing and other practical support, The Chelmsford Circuit have allocated funding to help families who aspire to more permanent accommodation but who have little money to help achieve this. You can help provide grants of up to £1000 for local refugees who manage to find landlords willing to accommodate them.
